We’re excited to announce our 2018 summer camps!

Half day camps for ages 3.5 - 16 include both medium-based camps such as Realistic Drawing, Acrylic Painting, Printmaking, Glass Art, and Wheel Throwing, as well as theme-based options. Join us for camp weeks in Origami, Game Making, Toy Making, Optical Illusion Art, Yoga & Art, Artsy Science, and Balancing Art among many others! Our new, larger studio space allows us to run 4 camps each week, so you're sure to find camps to suit every artist's taste. Each week ends in a Friday Art Show for friends and family, so mark your calendar, and...

June 4th - 8th

Tinkering Around

9am - 12pm // Ages 3.5* - 5

Yup. We'll be Tinkering Around all week long! During this camp for young artists, campers will have the opportunity to explore a variety of mediums and art materials. Young artists will enjoy working with clay, design their very own t-shirt to wear all summer long, and explore the fun of printmaking together. Kick off the summer with this camp full of variety and creativity!

Acrylics on Canvas

9am - 12pm // Ages 8 - 12

Build a foundation in painting with acrylics on canvas during this fun camp. Working on both 16"x20" and 12"x16" canvases, students will learn techniques just as color mixing, brush strokes, and how to set up their own compositions. We will create a variety of paintings during this camp which culminates in an independent study painting of each student's choice.

Under the Sea

Using a variety of mediums, children will enjoy transporting themselves to a magical world Under the Sea! We'll make beautiful clay fish, learn new painting techniques to make underwater scenes and animals, and even transform our studio into an underwater oasis. Calling all scuba divers!

Teen Acrylics

Sew Fun!

9am - 12pm // Ages 8 - 12

Design and sew your own stuffed animals! This week, we'll teach both hand sewing and machine sewing. Campers will learn to design and stuff their own plushy, create and sew a pillow, as well as other hand and machine sewn work. After learning the basics this week, sewing is a fantastic medium to continue working in long after camp ends!

Fired Up!

Experience the magic of the pottery wheel! We'll spend the week learning the basics of wheel throwing and advancing our skills with techniques such as altering our wheel thrown artwork. Class size is limited to 6 students--allowing each student to work on their own pottery wheel and at their own level. All pieces will be fired and glazed with dinnerware safe glazes, ready to fill your cabinets!

Please note: Our final glaze day will be on Friday, 6/15. Therefore, glazed pieces will need to go back in the kiln to be fired and will be available for pick up 2 weeks later.

Sewers Camp

1pm -4pm // Ages 13 - 16

This week, we'll teach both hand sewing and basic machine sewing. Working on their own machines, campers will learn to design and sew simple patterns--choosing from options such as an eye mask and brush or pen holder. Other projects will include sewing a pillow and an over-the-shoulder sling bag. After learning the basics of hand and machine sewing, this is a fantastic medium to continue working in long after camp ends!

Clay & Sculpt

Working in the 3rd dimension is a fun and rewarding experience for children. Building with our hands, we'll work with a variety of sculptural materials including wire, plaster, and especially clay. Using clay tools and many techniques, children will make artwork that will last a lifetime! Don't miss this opportunity to delve into the wonderful world of sculpture!

Printmakers Camp

Printmaking is one of our very favorite mediums! The advent of the printing press changed the world - join us this week and it might change your art-making life forever too! Children will make their own stamps and printing plates to print images on paper, fabric and other surfaces. We'll explore mono-printing, linoleum block printing, and combining printing with other media to make unique pieces of art. With printmaking, the possibilities to create are truly endless!

Comics Camp

Learn a unique form of storytelling during this fun Comics Camp! Comics lend themselves to creative thinking, playfulness and imagination. In this camp we will learn about use of text, breaking up a story, and the linear style of comics. Students will explore the individual elements used in comics such as how to draw different types of characters, show emotions, and more before creating a complete comic of their own. Don't miss this fun week of camp!

Come play at Tinker! During this fun week for our youngest tinkerers, we'll paint, play, explore sensory materials, and even sing! Make + Play will be 1 part art and 1 part play for the perfect week of summer camp.

Drawing Optical Illusions

Have you ever wanted to learn how to make your drawings POP? Join us for a week full of detailed drawing to learn and master your own optical illusions. In addition to 3D drawings, students will increase their understanding of 1 point perspective and creating depth, learn how to create color shading illusions, and also enjoy learning why our brains interpret optical illusions the way that they do. Impress your friends and family as you trick the mind with your artwork!

Old Fashioned Selfies

Learn about the original selfie, the portrait! During this fun camp, students will learn to create both traditional and abstract portraits, while also exploring alternative portraits through inquiry, discussion, and artwork in a supportive and community focused environment. Using a variety of mediums, this is sure to be a fun and memorable week of camp!

Our Fairies Camp is back by very popular demand! Come on a journey with us this week as we explore the magical, beautiful, and exciting world of fairies! We'll make our own human-sized fairy wings to fly with our fairy friends, build fairy houses for special fairies to live, and plant fairy gardens to make sure they have a place to frolic and play! We'll use our imaginations, play, and create plenty of fairy-related art during this fun week of exploration and creation together with other fairy lovers!

Painters Camp

Join us on an adventure into all things painting! We'll learn fun watercolor techniques, paint with acrylics on canvas, and play with colors on paper, fabric, an other materials. Students will gain an understanding into color theory, mixing and explore different paint mediums. Camp will culminate in an independent painting project working from a reference of each student's choosing. Now let's paint!

Game Makers Camp

Make your own Clay Marble Maze, Straw Rocket Launcher, and more in this awesome camp! Become a master Game Maker and bring your games home to keep playing with friends long after camp ends. This exciting camp week combines art, creative problem solving, and imagination all while creating! Students will also have the chance to invent their own games this week using the wide range of materials available in the studio. Let the games begin!

The Art of Anime and Manga

Japanese animation (anime) and comics (manga, meaning “whimsical drawings” or “impromptu sketches”) have a rich history in earlier Japanese art. Studying some of the first famous anime and manga artists, children will delve into the styles and traits found in the art form and learn how to draw figures and images. The week culminates in students creating their own story, drawn and told in the traditional manga style. Older children will thoroughly enjoy this week of drawing and creativity at Tinker!

The Art of Origami

Learn the Japanese art of folding paper into decorative shapes and figures! We'll explore the rich history of origami as we learn the techniques and skills associated with the art form. Towards the end of the week, we'll combine our newly discovered origami skills with other mediums to create artistic scenes and sculptures. Origami is such a fun artform to learn and share with others--don't miss the chance to dive in this week!

Artsy Science Camp

Science + Art is a perfect match! Campers will have a blast as they use art to explore all kinds of scientific concepts - gaining new insights and understanding while playing, creating, and experimenting! We'll watch as secondary colors separate into their primary color components, create artwork from oil and water, learn about rain clouds, and lots more! We'll experiment, play, watch, learn, and create all week together!

Realistic Drawing

We will be exploring how to draw people, animals, and nature using both traditional and contemporary drawing techniques with media such as pencils, pen and ink, charcoal, and more. Toys, Toys, Toys!

In this special week of camp, children will enjoy learning about and making all kinds of TOYS! We'll explore the age-old art of toy making while making our own old fashioned climbing toys, spinners, and lots more! Get ready to make and play this week!

The Independent Artist's Camp: Portfolios

For the artist who wants to bring their own interests, questions and ideas, while creating work in a supportive studio environment, this camp is for you! Students will start by choosing their medium(s) and enjoy a full week of self-directed projects, have the studio and materials at their disposal (note: no ceramics work this week), and enjoy both teacher and peer support and guidance as they build their own portfolio over our five days together. Please note that the successful student in The Independent Artist's Camp will be one who's motivated to create works of their own choosing.

Balancing Art!

This unique week combines motion and balance with art making. We’ll have a blast making sculptures like Alexander Calder, pendulums to experiment with how gravity, momentum, physics, and paint combine to make beautiful works of art, and lots more in this fun week of art (+ science, engineering, experimenting and more!!)

Clay Camp: Let's Eat!

What could be better than a week of playing with clay! Join us as we learn hand building techniques to create ceramic art together. Children will make their very own functional dish set including a mug, plate, and a bowl this week to take home and eat off of! In addition, we’ll enjoy making a creative sculptural piece and will even get to play and explore on the pottery wheels one day this week! (Our Pottery Wheel day will be an exploration only). Make artwork that you'll enjoy using for years to come!

Drawing from Life

Teens will learn techniques to realistically render objects and people in our Drawing from Life camp. Working with charcoal, students will gain an understanding of composition, shading, shadows and highlights, and more this week. The week will culminate in working with a professional live model on both quick sketches and longer poses.

Don’t miss this unique opportunity to work with the age-old art of glass. (There is evidence that the Egyptians knew how to fuse glass as early as 2000 BCE!) Learning safe techniques for handling and working with glass, students will learn to fuse glass in the kiln, combine glass into ceramic work to create fascinating colors and textures, and more during this fantastic week of camp!

Summer Camp Cancellation Policy:

  • Payment is due in full at time of registration. Your registration includes a $50 non-refundable deposit, per camp. In the event of a cancellation, the remainder of your payment (-$50 non-refundable deposit) will be refunded up to 14 days prior to the start of the camp. Within 14 days of the camp start date, your payment is non-refundable.
  • A minimum of 5 students must be enrolled in order for camp to be held. We will notify you if your camp might not run due to low enrollment.
