Adult Class Information

General information for all classes:

  • Classes typically start with a ~20-30 minute lesson or demo. Therefore, it is important to note that arriving late will likely cause you to miss the day's instruction. We hope you are able to arrive as-approximately-on-time-as-possible so you can get the most out of this class! :)

  • Due to staff schedules, the studio may be closed and locked until about 6:20-6:25pm. Once a Tinker instructor arrives, they will unlock the doors for all students. Thank you for your support.

  • Photo references can be sent to hello@tinkerartstudio.com. Please send references by noon at the latest on the day of your class for evening classes and by 6pm at the latest for daytime classes.

Information for Life Drawing Classes:

  • We will be working with a live nude model for most classes, and also have a few (usually 3) technique based still life/skill building classes without a model.

  • We work with models of different genders throughout the course of the semester. Models can include women, men, transgender, and nonbinary individuals.

Information for Oil Painting: Beginners & Intermediate Classes:

  • We will be using Walnut Oil as a thinner in our studio as opposed to Mineral Spirits. You may wish to have Mineral Spirits at home for additional cleaning. We will provide you with a small jar of walnut oil.

Information for Pottery Classes:

  • Materials - School-Year Class: The materials fee includes one 25-lb bag of clay, glaze, and firing fees. An additional 25-lbs of clay is available for purchase. The maximum amount of clay that can be purchased for the semester is 50-lbs. Each student will be limited to two bags of clay. Outside clay and glazes are not allowed.

  • Materials - Summer Class: The materials fee includes one 25-lb bag of clay, glaze, and firing fees. No additional clay can be purchased in the summer. Each student will be limited to one bag of clay. Outside clay and glazes are not allowed.

  • Quick Sessions: The materials fee includes one 25-lb bag of clay, glaze, and firing fees. No additional clay can be purchased in the summer. Each student will be limited to one bag of clay. Outside clay and glazes are not allowed.

  • While wheel throwing, you will want to pull back and long hair, take off any jewelry, rings or watches and make sure that all sleeves are out of your way. It is also helpful to have trimmed fingernails.

  • Working with clay can get messy. We recommend that you wear an apron, old t-shirt, or clothes you don’t mind getting clay on.

  • Please plan to complete all of your pieces, including glazing, by the last class of the session. Remember that finishing + glazing your pottery takes a significant amount of time. Please budget for this as you work throughout the session.
