Adult CLasses Materials Lists
Local purchasing recommendations:
Michaels (Michaels often has at 20% off coupons)
Art Parts for budget-friendly, lightly-used materials although they may not have everything that you need
Online purchasing recommendations:
Please note that Tinker does not have storage space for 2D drawing or painting materials or drawing pads. In-progress canvases up to 16” x 20” can be stored until they are finished. While not on your individual materials list, you will want to consider how you’ll carry art supplies back and forth each week. A plastic bin or canvas bag works well. A large portfolio with handles is a great option for transporting drawing pads and flat paper. Please reach out if you have any questions!
Tinker has a set of materials that may be used on the first day of class if you have questions or are in a pinch, though studio materials are not available to be used regularly. Thank you for your support, and please reach out if you have any questions!
-
The studio has a set of tabletop easels that will sometimes be used during this class. We will also be using table space. Please let us know if you have any questions!
Papers
Each student will need a newsprint pad and other sketch paper. For some students, 50 pages is plenty, while others will need a pad with 100 pages.
Newsprint pad in 9"x12" or 14"x17" size (50 or 100 sheets) – Canson XL
Sketch paper pad in 12"x18" size – At least 70lb weight. Any brand works. Strathmore Series 300 or Series 400 are recommended. Sketch paper is slightly heavier than drawing paper and works best.
Strathmore Toned Sketch Pad (24 sheets) in toned tan or toned grey

Notes on acrylic paints: Purchase either professional grade or student grade (a mix is also fine). We recommend Golden or Liquitex brand options. Acrylics can be thin or heavy-bodied — heavy body is usually a good place to start since it’s thicker and more pigmented.
