Youth Class Information

Homeschool Classes // 3-hour art Classes, What to Bring Each Day:

  • a water bottle

  • a nut-free snack. Tinker is NUT AWARE. Please pack a peanut and tree-nut free snack.

    • While we will always try to eat outdoors on our patio, we will eat indoors together in the event of foul weather.

  • Please also dress appropriately for the weather as we'll have outdoor time on our patio daily. During the warmer parts of the year, you may want to send your student with a sun hat and apply sunscreen prior to class as well.

Youth Pottery Classes // what to expect:

  • As we will be wheel throwing, please have your child pull back any long hair, as well as wear appropriate clothing to get a little messy! Jeans/pants that can get messy and short sleeves work well while we are throwing as students can easily get clay up to their elbows. Additionally, children will need to take off any jewelry on their fingers or wrists prior to throwing on the wheels. Trimmed fingernails is also helpful. Thanks for your support with this!

  • We want to let you know a little bit about the medium of wheel throwing, which is a very fun and engaging process. If it's your student's first time on the wheels, your child will soon learn it takes a certain amount of calm and focus, as well as patience as we learn to throw. It can sometimes be frustrating, especially in the beginning, and this is something that we expect for your student to feel. We are excited to support them through this process, and also want you to be aware that you might hear some of this after their wheel throwing classes. You can help by also supporting the fact that it is okay to feel that way, and with continued practice, we’ll keep building our skills on the wheels.

  • Lastly, to allow as many work days as possible, we will be glazing with your students on the final day of class. Not all pieces from the session will be ready to take home and will need to stay at Tinker to be glaze fired before you come back to pick them up. When pieces are ready to be picked up (typically about 2 weeks later), you will receive an email.
